Cascade Mountain School in an outdoor science school in the Columbia River Gorge that is partnering with OES on its summer programs: Girls Rock! is an application-based program for young, motivated leaders in Hood River and Wasco Counties of Oregon and Klickitat and Skamania Counties in Washington. The program runs August 5 – 10 for female-identifying students ages 13 – 15. For six days and five nights, these participants will hone their leadership and communication skills through exploration of ecological sciences, Mt. Adams, and personal goals. This introductory course to environmental leadership allows these young leaders to build confidence in outdoor skills, such as backpacking, camping, basic field science, and rafting, as well as grow their personal self-confidence through team-building and female empowerment activities.

And the program doesn’t just end after six days! As part of bringing the experience and new skills back to their communities, participants will meet with CMS instructor, Erynne, monthly during the fall of the 2018 school year for environmental mentorship workshops to brainstorm and launch ideas to creatively engage their school, friends, and/or community members in local environmental initiatives.

*Female-identifying student living in Hood River or Wasco Counties, OR, or Klickitat or Skamania Counties, WA.
